I've been talking to the owner of my LHS about doing something other than asphalt oval.

I think asphalt offroad with a few jumps would/could be fun.
plus it can be setup with PVC pipe on top of the oval track and removed
afterwards. We could still utilize the lap counter/transponder system.
Are there any downfalls to this idea I am not thinking of ?

Lets start a pros and cons list.
(im actually gonna print this for him in a few weeks ! So, if this is a bad
idea you guys can talk me out of it !)

I'll update as often as possible.

Only con I can think of is a hard or awkward landings could break parts. Other wise it sounds pretty cool.

    Pros:
    Less maintenance required
    Less dust
    More expensive than dirt

    Cons:
    Layout changing more difficult
    Hard landing will break parts
In my mind the word "off-road" means off the road, where there is no asphalt
Tires wear for sure but an asphalt track might be a good place to wear out all those "half worn out" tires we no more use

But when we look at the tracks where the pros races, the dirt is so much packed that it looks like asphalt.

Yup. Layout changes shouldnt be a problem though; only limited by space and imagination

more expensive than dirt = only initially; then its just extensions.
no maintenance but a blower for rocks and dust. with dirt/clay its spraying with
water and spraying with soda, etc.

I have a FEW sets of half worn tires, and so do friends who longer use them.

Same could be said for hard packed clay; I see it every week
Think about that for a minute. Great traction from most tires (even stock slash tires get decent
traction on asphalt here in sunny Florida) Mine dont wear quickly at all, although i've never
had a good set of "street" tires.

How do foam tires work on asphalt ?
I have a couple of sets of those laying around too,

Have foams for my T4, they don't work on asphalt.
